4 Ways to Open and Play Blu-ray/DVD ISO Files on PC and Mac

An ISO image file is a type of disc image file used to replicate the contents of an optical disc, such as a Blu-ray and DVD, which contains every piece of information of the original disc. Generally, it is unnecessary to open ISO files and view their contents, because an ISO file can be written to a DVD disc to read. But knowing about how to open ISO files will allow you to troubleshoot any problems with the disc image or locate specific data within the image. Next, the article will show you how to open an ISO file on PC/Mac and two ways to play ISO on your computer.

Part 1: How to open an ISO file on Mac?

For Mac users, it is easy to mount an ISO file on Mac simply by double-clicking the ISO image file, and it will go through the auto-mounter app within OS X putting it on your desktop.

If this doesn’t work, you could make use of Mac computer’s built-in Disk Utility and a more advanced option of using the command line. The Disk Utility is located in the /Applications/Utilities/ directory. After you have launched Disk Utility, navigate from the Disk Utility menu down to "Open Image File" and select your ISO file. Part 2: How to open an ISO file on PC?

For Windows users, if you want to view a data ISO image file on PC, you could also make use of some unarchive apps like WinRAR to open ISO image file on PC. With WinRAR and apps like this, you could easily view the inner content of ISO image file, no mounting, burning or backup required. Download and install WinRAR utility. During installation, make sure you tick the ISO option during setting the "Associate WinRAR with".

Locate the ISO image file you want to open. It would appear in WinRAR form with .iso extension.

Rip DVD to Netgear ReadyNAS for Viewing on Amazon Fire TV via Plex

More and more people choose to make a digital copy for their DVD collection so that they can watch their favorite DVD movies on Amazon File TV via Plex conveniently. Owning to the enormous demand of storage , DVD users, who are planning to rip DVD for Amazon Fire TV, need a central storage device, like a Netgear ReadyNAS. However, from the feedback of community.netgear.com, it seems that ripping DVD to Netgear ReadyNAS for watching on Amazon Fire TV via Plex is not easy as we imaged.

To some degree, when many people try to rip DVD to Netgear ReadyNAS for Amazon Fire TV for watching via Plex, they will be stuck in the common ground between what the player supports and what plex supports. Based on the specification of Amazon Fire TV, TS would be the best format for the player. It carries all the common surround sound audio (DTS, etc). But Plex doesn't support TS. It might possibly support m2ts (which is related) - the information I see on the plex forum is a bit inconclusive on whether that needs transcoding or not.

ReadyDLNA does support TS, so you could try that. I’m suggesting converting just one file, and give the TS output a different name just for testing. Then add it to a Plex library and see if it works.

You can use some free programs to rip DVD to TS for testing but I don’t know which one can output TS file. How to rip DVD to Netgear ReadyNAS for viewing on Amazon Fire TV via Plex?

Step 1: Add DVD video to app

Simply click on “File” to load DVD movies to the software. It allows you to select the subtitle and audio track you want below the chapter list.

Step 2: Select the output format

Click “Format” and you will see many profiles here. You can search “TS”, “MP4” format in the right bottom search box directly.

Tip: From the specification of Amazon Fire TV, the video in H.264/AVC codec can be up to 1080p and 30 fps. So you can hit on “Settings” to open settings window where you can adjust the video size to 1080p and frame rate to 30 fps. Since AC3 is not sure playable or not, you can choose AAC and 5.1 channel for audio. If 5.1 sound is not supported, it will be limited to stereo audio.

Step 3: Start to rip DVD to Amazon Fire TV

After all settings, just press “Convert” icon below the preview window. Once the process ends, you can locate the generated file in output folder.

Now, put the ripped DVD to Netgear NAS and install a Plex on it. Then install a Plex on Amazon Fire TV, too. Try again to play DVD videos on Amazon Fire TV via Plex through Netgear ReadyNAS.

If it doesn’t work, maybe you should try other option that is to get a player that supports more formats. WDTV Live and PCH are popular choices. Many can access your media directly using SMB/CIFS and NFS - so there is no need for plex or ReadyDLNA at all.

How to Digital Blu-ray/DVD Collection to Personal Cloud Storage?

Step 1: Load Blu-ray/DVD movie

Click “File” to load your Blu-ray/DVD movie to this program. It will automatically choose the main content to convert. If there are several language subtitles in your Blu-ray/DVD movies, you can select the language subtitle you want to show in your movie by “Subtitle”.

Step 2: Specify output format

In drop-down format list, you can choose “HD Video” > “H.264 HD Video(*.mp4)” as output format for nearly all laptops, tablets, mobile phones can play MP4 videos.

Step 3: Start backup Blu-ray/DVD to MP4

Please follow this procedure to load content wirelessly onto your Wireless Plus device in Windows using SAMBA. The device must be connected to your computer via WiFi before proceeding:

1.Power on the Wireless Plus device.
2. Locate the Wireless Plus device in your wireless access menu.
3. Select the Wireless Plus device and enter a password if you have set one up.
4. Double-click on (My) Computer.
(Windows 8: Press the Windows key () + D, then select File Explorer (.)
5. Select Map Network Drive.
6. In the Folder field, type:

Please note that transferring large files or many files wirelessly may result in low performance. If you are moving large files or many files to the drive, Seagate recommends you connect to the computer using the USB cable instead.
